Clean agent fire extinguishing system

A clean agent fire extinguishing system (tube-based) is a fire suppression solution that uses a gaseous, non-residue-producing extinguishing agent and a flexible detection tube to both detect and suppress fires—without the need for electronics or external power.

🔥 What Is a Clean Agent?

A clean agent is a fire extinguishing gas that:

  • Is non-conductive

  • Leaves no residue

  • Is safe for humans

  • Evaporates quickly without harming electronics or equipment

Common Clean Agents Used:

  • FM-200 (Heptafluoropropane)

  • Novec 1230 (FK-5-1-12)

  • Inergen (Inert Gas Blend)

  • COâ‚‚ (sometimes used, but not ideal in occupied spaces)

📦 Tube-Based Clean Agent System Overview

Instead of relying on electronic sensors and control panels, a tube-based clean agent system uses a pressurized polymer detection tube that serves as both the fire detector and the activation mechanism.

🔄 Working Principle

  1. Detection Tube Installation

    • A flexible polymer tube (heat- and pressure-sensitive) is routed inside or around the equipment being protected—like control panels, electrical cabinets, or enclosures.

  2. Fire Detection

    • In case of fire, the tube detects heat and bursts at the hottest point (usually around 100–150°C).

  3. Activation

    • Direct System: Agent is released directly through the ruptured tube onto the fire.

    • Indirect System: The pressure drop triggers a valve on an external cylinder, releasing the agent through dedicated nozzles.
