The FM-200 fire extinguishing system (tube-based) refers to a clean agent fire suppression system that uses FM-200 (Heptafluoropropane) as the extinguishing agent and features a tube-based detection and activation mechanism instead of traditional electronic detectors or nozzles.

🔧 What is FM-200?

FM-200 (chemical name: Heptafluoropropane, C₃HF₇) is a colorless, odorless gas used to extinguish fires quickly by:

• Absorbing heat (physical suppression)

• Interrupting the chemical chain reaction of the fire (chemical suppression)

• It is safe for use in occupied spaces and leaves no residue.

📦 Tube-Based FM-200 System: Overview

A tube-based FM-200 system integrates the detection and suppression functions into a flexible polymer detection tube. This is commonly used for localized protection, like in:

• Electrical panels

• CNC machines

• Server cabinets

• Vehicle engine bays

🛠️ How It Works

1. Detection Tube Installation:

   • A pressurized polymer tube is routed inside or near the protected equipment.

   • The tube is sensitive to high temperatures (typically bursts around 100–150°C / 212–302°F).

2. Fire Detection and Suppression Activation:

   • When a fire occurs, the tube ruptures at the hottest point.

   • The pressure drop inside the tube either:

     • Direct system: Releases FM-200 through the ruptured hole directly onto the fire.

     • Indirect system: Triggers a valve on an external cylinder, discharging FM-200 through nozzles.
